Can you buy a glock 17 and take it to range same day?

can you buy a glock and take it to range same day? or do you have to do some oils and lubricating and maintenance before you put 500 rounds through it? I am getting my FID card finally tomorrow, and will be buying a glock17 same day, but wanted to know if anything I need to do to the handgun before I take it to the range...well not as if there is anything i HAVE to do, but i mean recommendations and such.
