Why do people believe ANYTHING they see or read in the media about Iran's nuclear programme?

The hype smacks of the hysteria surrounding Saddam's mythical WMD's prior to the catastrophic invasion of Iraq. Iran is no nearer a nuke than they were ten years ago.
